Between Art & Mystery: Venice at Night

When the day-trippers are gone and the souvenir shops close for the day, Venice becomes the most romantic city in Europe.

As the lights twinkle and cut through the fog, they create the ambiance of a spooky mystery novel. And then an evening ritual begins: the Italian tradition of passeggiata.

Passeggiata in Italian means “promenade,” a gentle stroll through the main streets of the city. This event occurs in virtually every town, village, and city in Italy. To many Italians, Passeggiata is the main social event of the day.

What you may love most about Venice at night is the silence. The crowds have left and all you hear is the natural buzz of the city and the rhythm of the water. It’s a time to relax and refresh and know that all is right with the world.
