Also in Florence, you’ll find the Uffizi Gallery. The word Uffizi actually means “offices.” Once the base of the Medici empire, it’s now the home of their personal art gallery, and is a wonderful place to watch the world go by. Also close by is the Loggia, which houses the great sculptures Persius, Medusa, and the Rape of the Sabine.
Florence has an art scene that is still vital today. In fact, sixty percent of the world's most important works are found in Italy, and over half of these are in Florence.
