Italy's 'Liquid Gold'

Another thing you see dotted all along the Amalfi Coast is terraced groves of lemon trees. Italy is the world’s largest producer of lemons, and as is the custom throughout Italy, the people here use what is abundant and local to give life to tradition.

The Cammarota family of Naples is an example of a family that takes making limoncello, a lemon-based liqueur, very seriously. As in most traditional Italian families, life in the Cammarota home revolves around cooking and eating, and after the meal, limoncello is always served. They say it’s “good for the digestion.” As my good friend Luigi Cammarota advises, "Remember to always serve the limoncello in an ice-cold glass." Salute'!
