The famous San Lorenzo Market, one of the largest outdoor markets in Tuscany is huge. It stretches out past Piazza San Lorenzo, Via del Canto de’Nelli and Via dell’Ariento, right in the heart of Florence. It’s not unusual for the market to stay open from eight in the morning to eight at night, depending on the season – and how business is going.
Inside the building known as the Central Market, or Mercato Centrale, you’ll find a massive array of meats, fish, cheeses, fresh produce, homemade pasta, and of course, wine. And if you’re hungry, there is plenty of Tuscan take-out. Outside, San Lorenzo has a real street-fair vibe, and has just about everything: sunglasses, ties, scarves, aprons, artwork, jewelry, and food. But of course, shopping in Florence really means leather, so don't miss it! More to come on Italian leather tomorrow.
