If you had to choose between all the art in Florence and all the gelato, you might consider looking at the art in books! After all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right? Cream, milk, eggs, and a symphony of fresh flavors whirled and swirled into beautiful cascades, waiting to be dived into and devoured. That’s gelato.
Most people attribute the creation of gelato to the Florentine genius Bernardo Buontalenti, Renaissance poet, sculptor, painter, and inventor. The technique was then perfected in Paris by Sicilian Franscesco Procopio dei Coltelli, whose famous café is still going strong today.
